Carlsbad History

Carlsbad was originally inhabited by the Payomkowishum Indians.  Due to the similarity of water tested from a local well in the 1880s, the town was named after a famous spa in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) in the Czech Republic.  With the abundance of well water and water imported from northern California and the Colorado River, Carlsbad soon became a thriving farming center.  The town was incorporated in 1952 and Carlsbad has continued to flourish with business and high-end residential growth.
