San Diego County covers 4,526 square miles with an estimated population of 3 million and a median age of 33 years as of, July 2008.  The median family income was $68,237 and the median home price was $439,633. 
 
North County has many communities with a much higher median household income level.  Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe and Solana Beach enjoy higher income levels and lower populations.  Oceanside, Escondido, Carlsbad and Vista have the largest populations.
 
Weather
You’ll fall in love with the mild Mediterranean climate and the year-round Pacific Ocean breezes.  Temperatures in July average a high of 82.6° and January winter lows average a mild 43.7°.  There is an average rainfall of 13.68 inches.  No matter what the weather, you can always find lots of outdoor activities and fun things to do throughout the year. 
 
Transportation
Getting around San Diego North County is easy with a good interstate freeway network.  North County Transit District has numerous routes for the local Breeze buses.  You can also take the Sprinter rail line along the Highway 78 corridor between Oceanside and Escondido.  If you like taking the commuter train, there are Coaster trains that link San Diego and North County throughout the week with limited schedules on weekends. 
 
In addition, Amtrak Metro Link commuter trains connect to Los Angeles, Palomar Airport in Carlsbad for commuter planes connecting to Lindbergh Field in San Diego, LAX in Los Angeles or Las Vegas, Nevada.
 
If you need to commute by air, San Diego International Airport is easily accessible via interstate highways: I-5, I-8 and I-15.  
 
San Diego History
In 1821, Mexico won its independence from Spain and what is now San Diego County, was governed by Mexico until the end of the United States war with Mexico.  After the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidaldo was signed in 1848, San Diego County became part of the United States.  In September 1850, California gained statehood and settlers began migrating into California looking for land to farm and of course gold.  Today, people are still coming to San Diego for jobs and to live an active lifestyle near the coast.
